Suit claims damage from mercury fillings

A group of people who have mercury tooth fillings have launched a lawsuit against Health Canada, the Canadian Dental Association and provincial regulatory bodies. They say mercury amalgam dental fillings are making them sick and they were not told about possible health risks.

A group that calls itself 'Canadians for Mercury Relief' filed the class action lawsuit.

The group says mercury is a toxic substance and patients should be warned. They want the federal government, the Canadian Dental Association and the manufacturers of mercury amalgam to pay the cost of removing their old fillings.

Government groups still say the fillings do not cause illness.
