Teacher dies after shooting at high school

A 47-year-old teacher shot in the head near a Toronto-area high school dies; husband charged

A woman who was shot in the head in the parking lot of a Toronto-area high school Friday morning has died of her injuries.

The 47 year-old victim, a teacher at the school, was identified as Aysegul Candir.

She was pronounced dead in hospital Friday night.

Her husband, 62-year-old Erhun Candir of Bolton, was arrested at his home and has been charged with murder, police said.

Students at the Bramalea Secondary School in Brampton, northwest of Toronto, were released from the school unharmed a few hours after the shooting.

The building had gone into "lockdown" mode, a security procedure under which staff lock the doors, turn off the lights and have the children lie down on the floors for safety.

"It was a conflict between two adults, the students were never in any danger," Det. Stephen Rowe of Peel Region said.

There's no word on the reason for the shooting.

Erhun Candir was to appear in court Saturday for a bail hearing.
