CBC Thunder Bay, RFDA, Wasaya, set to take off for holiday fundraiser
Plane full of food to be flown to Ontario's far north
CBC Thunder Bay, the Regional Food Distribution Association, and Wasaya Airways are preparing for takeoff, as the 2016 Sounds Of the Season special approaches.
The goal is pack a cargo plane full of food — equalling about 4,500 kilograms — to be flown to Sandy Lake First Nation.
Sandy Lake, a fly-in community located about 600 km northwest of Thunder Bay, is one of the communities that has requested help this year.
On Friday Dec. 9, CBC Thunder Bay's morning show, Superior Morning, will broadcast live from the Wasaya Airways hangar in the city. The public is welcome to come watch and sip on some coffee.
The morning broadcast will feature live performances by Thunder Bay's own The Honest Heart Collective, as well as a culinary challenge featuring local chefs creating meals using only ingredients commonly found in food banks, and a special surprise appearance by a visitor from the North Pole.
Food donations can be dropped off in advance of the December 9 show at CBC Thunder Bay, and at the Thunder Bay police station on Balmoral Street.
Both food and cash donations are being accepted at the RFDA building on Syndicate Avenue.
