The identity of the man whose dead body was discovered in Thunder Bay on Friday night has yet to be confirmed, police report.

In the meantime, the scene where the remains were found will be held by police pending preliminary results from the postmortem exam. The area where the body was discovered has required additional forensic resources from the Ontario Provincial Police, a news release stated.

Police say investigators are treating this incident as a suspicious death. A further update is expected following preliminary postmortem results.

At about 10 p.m. Friday, police say, two separate 911 calls were received from city residents who were concerned about a fire they observed in the grassy area between the Harbour Expressway and Field Street, just west of Fort William Road.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue attended the scene and immediately called police when they found a body.

Police quickly secured the area to examine the scene and to collect evidence. The investigation continues.

The postmortem was scheduled to take place in Toronto on Monday.
