Drivers on Edward Street in Thunder Bay should get ready to slow down this fall.

City councillors gave administration the green light to create a community safety zone — with a 40 kilometre/hour speed limit — near Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School.

Councillor Iain Angus, who helped council draft the resolution that would see the immediate creation of the zone, said many students at the First Nations school may not be accustomed to the heavy traffic on Edward Street.

"These kids, when they come to DFC for Grade 9, have not come from a community that has lights, stop signs, road systems as we know it," Angus said.

The new lower-speed zone will be in place for the fall.
