The Thunder Bay Food Bank needs your muscles for a good cause.

Reino Pitkanen, chair of the Thunder Bay food bank, says the organization has recently lost nine long-time volunteers, and that most of the current volunteers are seniors.

"[We have] about 26 volunteers now, last time I counted," Pitkanen says,  "and they are all very dedicated of course and they all put in lots of hours. But they are getting old. They are not young."

The need for help at the food bank is especially acute in the summer, when people leave for camp or holidays, says Pitkanen.

He says the Thunder Bay food bank serves an average of 1400 clients a month, and that number keeps increasing.

The food bank especially need people who can lift donation boxes and small crates on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

The average shift is about two hours, Pitkanen says.

The Thunder Bay Food Bank is located at 129 Miles Street E.
