No charges will be laid against a high school student after police in Thunder Bay, Ont., were called to a city school in response to a weapons complaint.
Police said they received a 911 call around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday from someone who saw a post on social media of a male with a gun inside a backpack in a classroom at Hammarskjold High School, on the city's north side.
Officers arrived at the school shortly after, and with the help of school administration found the student and took him into custody, police said in a press release Wednesday.
A black gun was found in the student's backpack, which police said was spray-painted to resemble a real handgun.
Police said that no charges will be laid against the student, and Lakehead Public Schools sent out a phone message to all parents advising them of the incident.
School policy states that all weapons, including toy guns, are prohibited items in all schools and appropriate and immediate action will occur if students are in possession of them at school, police said.
