Thunder Bay’s parks division was able to salvage three large logs from the 100-year-old white pine.

The city said it would saw one of those logs into lumber on Tuesday. The lumber and the remaining logs will be offered to local artists who submit the best ideas for honouring the landmark tree.

Members of the community were shocked and dismayed by the act of mischief after it was discovered the tree had been cut down with a chain saw in June 2011.
