Amaria Diljohn was 'everything' to her loved ones
Toronto teenager's family and friends gather to mourn her loss at candlelight vigil
The friends and family of Amaria Diljohn gathered near the scene of her death on Sunday, to mourn the loss of the Toronto teenager who was struck and killed by a transit bus.
At a candlelight vigil in Scarborough, a man who identified himself as the girl's father said Amaria had been "everything" to the people who loved her.
"She was such an amazing child," said Maurice Fraser. "She was always happy. I love her."
Fraser said Amaria "always tried to make herself better" and always sought to help people.
"She was an angel," he said. "She was our everything."
At the vigil, candles were laid out in the shape of a heart, as flowers, pictures and other mementos were placed in the centre.
Amaria was just 14 when she died on Friday. Toronto police said the Grade 9 student was trying to cross Neilson Road south of the intersection with Finch Avenue East when she was struck.
The collision remains under investigation. Both the Toronto Transit Commission and the bus driver are co-operating with police.
A fund has been set up at a Malvern Scotiabank to help Diljohn's family pay for her funeral.
