Ellis stars as Aminata Diallo, who is taken by slave traders from West Africa to the U.S. and her life through the American Revolution, escape to Canada and her ultimate freedom in England. (CBC)
The Book of Negroes follows the story of an African woman named Aminata Diallo, played by Aunjanue Ellis, who is kidnapped from Africa and sold into slavery in the southern U.S.

The six-part miniseries is a TV adaptation of Lawrence Hill's award-winning novel, and includes performances by Academy Award-winning actors Lou Gossett Jr. and Cuba Gooding Jr.
