Good morning and happy Friday!

A heat warning remains in effect for Toronto as temperatures are set to soar even higher than yesterday for a scorching weekend in the city.

Prepare to sweat.

As of 5:30 a.m. it was 24 C, feeling more like 30 with the humidex. Mainly sunny skies are in the forecast today with a high of 36 C that will feel like 45 with the stifling humidity.

Clear skies will stick around through the overnight with a low of 22 C.

Crank the A/C this weekend

Don't expect comfortable weather to return anytime soon — daytime highs will stay 30 C or higher through Monday with the humidity making it feel around 40.

Mainly sunny skies will accompany the steamy temperatures through the weekend, with a couple of clouds rolling in by Sunday.

Drink lots of water

A heat warning remains in effect from both Environment Canada and Toronto's chief medical officer.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperatures or humid conditions could lead to a greater risk of heat illnesses, such as heatstroke or heat exhaustion.

That risk is greatest for:

  • Older adults.
  • Infants and young children.
  • People with chronic illnesses, such as breathing difficulties.
  • People who work or exercise in the heat.
  • Homeless people.
  • Those without access to air conditioning.

Environment Canada urged Toronto residents to drink plenty of liquid – especially water – before feeling thirsty, which will decrease the risk of dehydration.
