Could a new GO Transit station be coming near you?

In a bid to boost ridership, Metrolinx said they're evaluating 50 potential new sites for GO stations.

"Recent investments in the transit network in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area provide an opportunity to consider new stations and the expansion of stations on the GO network," said a report presented at a meeting of the provincial agency on Tuesday.

Among the sites being reviewed are those put forward in Toronto Mayor John Tory's SmartTrack plan. Others being evaluated include Oshawa, Guelph and Toronto's Liberty Village neighbourhood.

Metrolinx said the official number of new stations will be less than 50, but it's unclear how many will be selected until the evaluation process is complete.

With more stations comes more frequent stops, which could slow down service.

A short list of new stations is expected to be revealed within months. Below are 120 locations identified in the initial list.
