Mounting slip-and-fall injuries prove need for proper boots
The need to have proper winter footwear has been highlighted by the mounting number of slip-and-fall injuries this season.
Toronto’s long winter has led to a long list of injured people who have been hurt by slips and falls on ice.
Harry Levinter of Toronto EMS says paramedics have been called to deal with 1,200 more slips and falls than they dealt with last year.
This increase in injuries has highlighted the importance of having the proper footwear in order to minimize the risk of injury.
Inside the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, Geoff Fernie is conducting research in the so-called winter boot lab.
He told CBC News that boots with flat soles and deep treads are likely the best bet.
