York regional police have arrested a 28-year-old Newmarket woman accused of impaired driving and leaving her seven-year-old daughter at home alone.

Officers were called to a collision at Yonge Street and Kingston Road on Tuesday around 5:40 p.m.

The woman was in one of the vehicles and showed signs that she might have been impaired by alcohol, according to police.

Police say she was taken back to the Newmarket police headquarters for a breath test and she failed.

Officers learned the woman had a seven-year-old daughter that may have been left at home alone. The girl was located by police around 9:30 p.m. that evening.

Her father picked her up and police notified the Children's Aid Society.

The 28-year-old woman is facing four charges, including impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol level over 80 milligrams, obstructing police and leaving a child unattended.

This past weekend police in York region arrested 10 impaired drivers, calling it a "disappointing weekend."

York police are urging people to participate in the #ImTHATPerson campaign, which encourages citizens to speak out against impaired driving.
