Man, 84, critically injured in Humewood hit and run
Collision happened on St. Clair Avenue West and Humewood Drive
A 84-year-old man suffered critical injuries when he was struck by a vehicle in a hit and run in Toronto's west end on Friday night, police say.
Police said the man was hit on St. Clair Avenue West at Humewood Drive near a TTC streetcar shelter. Emergency crews were called to the area at 11:20 p.m.
In a news release on Saturday, police said the man was crossing St. Clair Avenue West from north to south when he was struck by a westbound blue SUV.
The man's personal belongings, including a baseball cap, shoes and a bag, were scattered on the ground from the force of the collision.
The SUV slowed, then continued westbound on St. Clair Avenue West, a witness has told police. It was last seen near Keele Street.
Toronto paramedics took the man to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre through an emergency run. He was unconscious at the time.
Acting Staff Sgt. Graeme Philipson, of Toronto police's traffic services, said the man suffered critical head injuries.
Police said the vehicle is a Volkswagen SUV with the Ontario licence plate number CKKE 113. The model is an Atlas or Tiguan. It possibly has front-end damage.
St. Clair Avenue West was closed for hours overnight as officers from Toronto police's traffic services investigated.
Police are asking local residents, businesses and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or collision, to contact investigators.
