Toronto police said two pedestrians were taken to hospital with serious injuries Saturday afternoon after they were hit by a Jeep while trying to retrieve a dog.
Police said the driver of the Jeep was parked in a private Yorkville driveway, facing east. As the two women were trying to get the dog, the driver — who remained at the scene following the incident — drove forward and ran them over.
Both women, aged 51 and 84, were taken to Sunnybrook Hospital for treatment, police said.
The collision happened in the area of Avenue Road and Tranby Avenue just before 1:30 p.m., Toronto police said in a post to X.
Police initially said both women had life-threatening injuries, but later confirmed both are expected to survive.
