Police investigate after human skull found in Vaughan

York Regional Police are looking for more information about a human skull that was found in a wooded area near the Uplands Golf and Ski Club in Vaughan, Ont., this past weekend.

The skull was discovered in the Bathurst Street and Highway 407 area on Sunday afternoon by a resident who was out for a walk, enjoying the weekend's nice weather.

That grim discovery has spurred police to begin trying to learn more about the skull and how it ended up where it did.

"Today our homicide unit is working closely with our forensic identification unit, along with our partners at the regional coroner's office, to ascertain whether the remains are in fact male or female," Det. Sgt. John Braybrook told reporters on Monday.

Braybrook said that determination could take a day or two.

He estimated that it would take police several days to search the "vast area" where the skull was found, as they look for any other remains.

Police are currently treating the death as suspicious, but Braybrook said "we have no indication whether there was any criminality at this point."

He asked that anyone with information about the skull to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
