2 charged after rock-throwing incidents in Markham
York police say 2 males now facing charges after rocks thrown at vehicles
Two teens are now facing charges linked to rocks being thrown at vehicles in the Markham and Whitchurch-Stouffville areas in recent months, York Regional Police say.
In a news release issued Friday, police said an 18-year-old boy from Markham faces two charges of mischief under $5,000, while a 17-year-old boy from Markham faces a single mischief charge.
In an interview with CBC News, Const. James Dickson said that thus far, police have linked the two accused to two incidents — one in which rocks were thrown at car that wasn't moving, and another in which a person suffered minor injuries as a result of a rock going through a window.
Investigators had previously warned the public about a string of similar incidents stretching back to last summer, including one incident that caused a crash that sent two people to hospital in life-threatening condition, as well as another where a GO Transit bus was hit.
Police have not linked the teens to those incidents.
Dickson said the investigation is ongoing and police expect more charges may be laid.
"We know this is something that is very concerning for the public," he said.
"However this is far from being done — we are just getting started in terms of the investigation."
