Father sentenced to life in prison after fatally stabbing ex-wife, daughter
Godfrey Sig-Od previously found guilty in 2022 deaths of Elvie and Angelica Sig-Od

A judge has sentenced a 48-year-old man to life in prison for brutally stabbing his ex-wife and daughter to death in North York in 2022.
A Superior Court jury in Toronto previously found Godfrey Sig-Od guilty of first-degree murder for killing Elvie Sig-Od, 44, and second-degree murder for the death of his daughter, 20-year-old Angelica Sig-Od.
Sig-Od's parole eligibility was set at 25 years in his wife's murder, and 18 years for his daughter's.
In a victim impact statement submitted to the court, Elboy Pio, brother and uncle of the victims, described the sorrow he has experienced since their deaths.
"The day we lost them, our world changed forever," he said. "The shock, the pain, and the sheer disbelief were unbearable.
"Every morning, we woke up wishing it had all been a nightmare, only to be met with the crushing reality that they were gone."
Police previously said the mother and daughter were killed inside a vehicle near Bathurst Street and Ellerslie Avenue on Aug. 22 of that year, after what officers described as an "obvious struggle."
