A new TIFF documentary follows the final months leading up to the closure of Ontario Place's West Island.
Director Ali Weinstein visited the waterfront attraction as a child and re-discovered it during the pandemic. When she heard about the controversial redevelopment plans, she started filming.
"My vision for the film was really about documenting this moment," said Weinstein. "The limbo in between the heyday of Ontario Place … and then what it is going to become soon."
The result is Your Tomorrow, premiering Thursday at the TIFF Lightbox. Weinstein documents Ontario Place staff, activists and everyday users of the space.
"I met so many amazing people who care about community and care about public good and care about the city," she said.
