Freezing drizzle advisory lifts for Toronto, parts of GTA: Environment Canada
The advisory is currently in effect for: Barrie, Collingwood and Hillsdale
A freezing drizzle advisory lifted for Toronto and parts of the GTA on Thursday, although it may continue in some surrounding areas into Friday afternoon, Environment Canada said.
The federal weather agency issued a weather advisory on Thursday morning, saying the freezing drizzle will be mixed with light snow.
"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery," Environment Canada said.
People are advised to take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
The advisory is currently in effect for: Barrie, Collingwood and Hillsdale, where snow is expected Friday.
Police have been warning of slippery conditions and "dozens" of crashes all across the GTA, including a collision in Burlington and two more along Highway 401 at Morningside Avenue and Hurontario Street, where a driver lost control of a truck. No serious injuries have been reported.
"It is still a treacherous drive out there," said Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the OPP's Highway Safety Division in a social media video.
"Please slow down, take care, and please drive safe."
Bus services to all Halton District and Halton Catholic District schools have been cancelled due to the weather, Halton Student Transportation Services said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, Thursday morning. All schools remain open.
