TTC subway closed between St. George, Lawrence West this weekend
Shuttle buses to run in place of trains
There won't be any subway service on Line 1 between St. George and Lawrence West stations this weekend, the TTC said.
The TTC said the subway closure, which begins on Saturday and affects seven stops, is necessary so work crews can lay some 11,000 metres of cable for a new signal system, replace over 800 metres of track and perform other maintenance work including station cleaning.
The TTC said there's a good reason for the disruption.
"One weekend of work during a subway closure is equivalent to about five weeks of nightly work," the TTC said in a news release, adding the new signal system will be a major improvement on Line 1.
Shuttle service will operate in place of the trains.
Metrolinx work on the future Eglinton Crosstown LRT means the Eglinton West stop for the shuttle buses will be at the intersection of Eglinton and Bathurst Streets. The Metrolinx work will also force diversions on the 63/363 Ossington and 109 Ranee bus routes, the TTC said.
Wheel-Trans buses will also be available.
Those travelling in the area are urged to check over their route before heading out. TTC staff will also be on hand to answer questions.
Here are the next major scheduled service disruptions:
- March 19-20: Line 1 – St. George to Lawrence West closure
- April 2: Line 2 - Kennedy to Victoria Park closure
- April 3: Line 2 - Pape to St. George late opening
