Hundreds of University of Toronto students, faculty and staff rallied near Bloor Street West and Spadina Avenue in the wake of recent threats of violence against women and feminists at the university.

"Feminism is here to stay. It is not going away. Misogyny must be eliminated. It has to go," a speaker at the rally said to cheers.

Rally-goers were encouraged to wear purple.

"We need a clear and strong community response that challenges today's persistent misogyny," CUPE 3902 Women's Caucus said after the threats emerged in a BlogTO comments thread.

"Violence that seeks to silence feminist voices cannot and will not succeed in its goals."
