What's closed because of the Mississauga fatal house explosion
Fire chief reduced perimeter around 'ground zero' this morning, still some roads closed

A house explosion that killed one woman and levelled a home in Mississauga yesterday is continuing to affect roads and services in the Dixie Road and Rathburn Road East area as fire services maintain a perimeter around the blast site Wednesday.
Fire Chief Tim Becket shrunk the perimeter around the home that exploded, what he calls "ground zero," on Hickory Drive this morning.
Immediately after the blast, people were evacuated from about 700 addresses. Today the number of addresses in that perimeter was reduced by about a third, Beckett said.
The current no-go area includes the following perimeter:
- Dixie Road to the east.
- Rathburn Road to the south.
- Hickory Drive to the west.
- The top end of Hickory Drive at Dixie to the north.
That perimeter means that Peel Regional Police have closed the following roads:
- Northbound Dixie Road at Rathburn Road is closed.
- Westbound Rathburn Road at Dixie Road is closed. Eastbound Rathburn Road remains open.
- Northbound Hickory Drive at Gryphon Mews. Southbound Hickory Drive at Gryphon Mews is open.
- Eastbound Rathburn Road from Wyatt Court is closed, but vehicles can travel westbound on Rathburn from Wyatt.
In addition to road closures, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board has closed St. Basil Catholic Elementary School on Golden Orchard Drive today because of the blast. There are no closures for Peel public schools in the area.
