Woman charged after allegedly stealing security vehicle, fleeing police while impaired in Whitby
Officers boxed in woman after she 'refused to comply' with traffic stop, police say

A 40-year-old is facing a host of charges, Durham police say, after allegedly stealing a marked security vehicle in Whitby before attempting to drive away while impaired on Monday.
It happened around 1:40 a.m. near 625 Victoria Street E., police said in a news release Tuesday. Officers responded to a call about a security vehicle that had allegedly been stolen by an unidentified woman who then took off.
Police quickly located the vehicle nearby and attempted a traffic stop, but the woman "refused to comply," the release said.
When the woman slowed for a red light, officers boxed in the car and arrested her. After she exited the vehicle, they found she had been drinking, the release said.
The woman, who is from Quebec, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, driving while impaired and mischief/damage to property under $5,000.
She was held for a bail hearing.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
