Wondering why part of Queen Street was closed Thursday? You can thank Mariah Carey

Streetcars and buses were diverting on Queen Street for the Hudson's Bay flagship store's holiday window unveiling tonight -- while Mariah Carey was headlining the event, the detours might have made for more than a few grinches in the city.

With November here, it won't be long before Christmas tunes start playing in shops and malls around the city, and tonight the voice behind one of the most hated and loved among them made getting around Toronto a little more difficult.

Mariah Carey, whose classic, All I Want for Christmas is You, is all but required listening around the holidays, rang in the season with a performance at the Hudson's Bay flagship store at Yonge and Queen streets for the unveiling of its holiday display windows.

And the festivities just might have made for a few extra grinches in the city tonight.

That's because Queen Street was closed between Yonge Street and Bay Street for the window reveal, leaving streetcars and buses to divert from approximately 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The 501 streetcar diverted both ways via Church, King and Shaw streets.

The 501/301 Queen shuttle buses also diverted in both directions as follows:

  • Eastbound: East on King Street, south on Strachan Avenue, west on Douro Street, north on Shaw Street, east on Queen Street, south on University Avenue, west on Adelaide Street, north on Church Street, east on Queen Street to Jarvis Street.
  • Westbound: South on Jarvis Street, west on King Street, north on York Street, west on Queen Street, south on Shaw Street

The TTC said earlier Presto service may not be available on shuttle buses.
