Tracking the search for Franklin's lost ships

The summer mission of the Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker Sir Wilfrid Laurier in the icy waters of the Arctic includes support for the Parks Canada-led search for the lost ships of Sir John Franklin's 1845 expedition to find the Northwest Passage.

The coast guard is one of several public and private sector partners involved in the search, which has just begun off the shore of Nunavut.

Organizations taking part in the quest for the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror include the Canadian Hydrographic Service, the Canadian Space Agency, the University of Victoria and the Arctic Research Foundation.
