Back to school: Windsor Islamic High School opens for 1st time
School is inside the Rose City Islamic Centre and offers class to Grade 9 students
A new Islamic high school opened its doors in Windsor on Tuesday, the first day of school for thousands of students across the region.
The Windsor Islamic High School is housed at the Rose City Islamic Centre.
The WIHS is operating as a subsidiary of An-Noor Private School Corporation and welcomed its incoming class of Grade 9 students Tuesday morning.
Students at the school will study the Ontario curriculum with the inclusion of an Islamic curriculum and Arabic as a third language.
"It is an exciting day and we finally opened the school this morning with 11 students," said Mohamed Moussa, the chair of the board at the new high school.
Moussa said that more students will likely join the school by the end of the month. But he said they won't have more than 15 students in total.
The Windsor Islamic High School needed five students to open. Officials wanted 10 to enrol and got 11 instead. Moussa said he's happy with the level of enrolment so far.
The school, which is semestered, has two certified teachers and a principal.
