A lighthouse on Bois Blanc Island, commonly known to Windsor-Essex residents as Boblo Island, is now deemed a heritage lighthouse by Parks Canada.

It's one of 74 that Parks Canada identified late Thursday.

The Bois Blanc Island Lighthouse sits on Bois Blanc Island, a National Historic Site off the shores of Amherstburg.

It is a white, circular, tapered stone lighthouse built in 1836 and is located on the southern tip of the island at the juncture of the Detroit River and Lake Erie.

The Bois Blanc Island Lighthouse and Blockhouse National Historic Site of Canada are managed by Parks Canada.

Two lighthouses on Walpole Island also received the heritage designation.
