U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) says its officers arrested an 18-year-old Iranian man after he allegedly illegally entered the United States from Canada over the weekend.

The border agency says a man was spotted Sunday morning along the U.S. side of the St. Clair River near East China Township, Mich., carrying a paddle board. The area lies just across the river from southwestern Ontario, south of Sarnia.

According to CBP, the man had crossed the border from Canada using the paddle board.

After taking the man into custody, officials say they conducted background checks and confirmed he is an Iranian citizen with legal residency status in Canada.

The individual was processed for expedited removal under U.S. immigration procedures and returned to Canada.
