Residents in parts of Chatham-Kent are being advised to boil their water before consumption. The advisory applies to people in Mitchell's Bay, Grande Pointe and Bass Haven.

Chatham-Kent Public Health issued the advisory as a precautionary measure after a loss of pressure in the system. It will remain in effect until further testing confirms the water is safe to drink.

The advisory applies to the following locations:

  • Bay Line up to and including the community of Mitchell's Bay.

Dr. Shanker Nesathurai, Chatham-Kent Public Health's acting medical officer of health, is advising residents to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, making infant formula, preparing food, brushing teeth or making ice. Alternatively, bottled water from a safe source can be used.

A pressure drop can increase the risk of contamination in the water supply. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to stay informed through Chatham-Kent Public Health's website. Anyone with questions should contact the health unit's environmental health department at 519-258-2146 ext. 4475 from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
