NextStar's electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in Windsor, Ont., was announced in 2022 and is expected to open in 2025.

The company says its modular operations will begin later this year, with the factory fully opening at an undisclosed time next year.

Construction has been ongoing on the city's east-side — along an expressway, between two arterial roads: Lauzon Parkway and Banwell Road.

On May 10, a CBC drone took to the air to survey construction progress at the southwestern Ontario site.

After work at the site was halted last year because the company was exploring alternative deals and incentives in the U.S., the project ended up receiving $15 billion in Canadian federal and provincial subsidies to move forward.

NextStar Energy is a partnership between Stellantis and the South Korean company LG Energy Solution. The factory is supposed to create more than 2,500 new jobs, with annual production capacity of 49.5 gigawatt hours.
