Farmers offer support following death of worker at Windsor-Essex riding association
'No hay was left un-baled, no bale left unstored and no animal left unfed'
Area farmers reportedly joined together to complete farming work at the Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association (WETRA) Wednesday, following the death of 27-year-old Alex Durham.
"Together, they ensured that no hay was left un-baled, no bale left un-stored and no animal left un-fed," reads an excerpt from a July 12 WETRA Facebook post.
"Alex's work as a farmer was important to him and we know that he would be proud of the way his friends rallied together in the face of unbearable grief to see his work through to completion."
Durham was a farm worker who died after a farming accident at WETRA Tuesday.
According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Durham died in hospital, where he succumbed to injuries after he was located "under the rear tire of a hay baler on the farm property."
OPP confirmed they had concluded their investigation in relation to Durham's death.
WETRA previously described Durham as a farming partner, later confirming that he was not one of the association's employees.
The Ministry of Labour said Thursday it was no longer investigating Durham's death, as the "fatality actually does not fall under the ministry's jurisdiction."
"This incident occurred on a farm and the deceased was not a worker as originally reported to us, so we are therefore no longer investigating," said Ministry of Labour spokesperson Janet Deline.
