RCMP in London make arrest in fentanyl trafficking
Border guards, RCMP arrest 28 year-old man for trafficking Furanyl-fentanyl
Police in London have arrested a man for allegedly smuggling a package of the potentially fatal drug Furanyl-fentanyl.
Border Services Officers at the Vancouver International Mail Centre intercepted a package from China on Oct. 24 that was destined for London, according to an RCMP news release.
The RCMP worked with London Police, Ontario Provincial Police and Canada Border Services Agency in making the arrest of a 28 year-old London man in connection to the smuggling.
The 30-gram package was labelled as plastic bags but an x-ray revealed it contained a suspected powder. CBSA officers alleged it contained 10 grams of Furanyl-fentanyl.
Authorities arrested the suspect at a home in London on Nov. 3.
"The production of fentanyl laced drugs in clandestine labs can lead to fatal concentrations of illicit substances," said London RCMP Insp. Joe Czenze in a news release.
The suspect has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and importing a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
