Outstanding homicide suspect arrested by Windsor police in Calgary

A suspect for an overnight homicide in the 1100 block of Healthfield Court last November has been arrested in Calgary and appeared in court Tuesday in Windsor, says police in a media release.

Last November on a Saturday, Windsor police arrived on scene to find a 23-year-old Windsor man who was shot outside of the home.

He was sent to hospital and later died.

Windsor police arrested two suspects several days after it happened and charged them with first-degree murder. A woman was also arrested and charged with two counts of accessory after the fact to murder.

A third suspect, Sumar Al-Rubayi, who also goes by the name Ali Habib, was wanted by police.

On July 6 this year, Windsor police was notified that Al-Rubayi had been located in Calgary and arrested by police there.

Investigators from Windsor then went to Calgary to arrest him on Monday "on the strength of an outstanding arrest warrant for charges including first degree murder," police say.

He was sent back to Windsor to appear in court on Tuesday for his charges.
