IKEA will open in Windsor. It will be one of the furniture store's "pick-up locations."

It will be located in the former Future Shop at the corner of Walker and Division roads, near Home Depot.

Customers will be able to look at, order and pickup items from IKEA but it will not be a full-fledged IKEA store.

The store will feature a 35,000-square-foot showroom, which is about 10 per cent the size of an average IKEA showroom.

The store will employ about 35 people and open in the spring of 2016.

IKEA Canada announced its first pick-up-point store in London, Ont., in May.

At the London location, customers are able to buy services to support their purchases, sit at a computer station to browse www.IKEA.ca to make online purchases, as well as having access to a limited assortment of products available for immediate takeaway.

IKEA currently has 12 full-fledged stores across Canada.

IKEA said expansion is Windsor is possible.

The closest full-fledged Canadian IKEA location is in Burlington. There is an IKEA in Canton, Mich., about 45 minutes from the border.
