Windsor's mayor is planning a walk along the Ganatchio Trail Sunday in support of a "wonderful" 75-year-old woman who was viciously assaulted on it last week.

Drew Dilkens has invited members of the Neighbourhood Watch, police and the public to join him in showing the city's parks and pathways are safe.

The senior was attacked on Oct. 8 and remains in hospital in critical condition. A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

"It was an unprovoked, vicious and random assault that has put her in hospital fighting for her life, and it has left our community bewildered," stated Dilkens in a media release. "This walk is being held ... to reassure each other that our community stands together as one in times of distress."

The walk will begin in the Little River parking lot at 11 a.m. Sunday.
