New home construction in Windsor CMA continues its hot pace
Windsor and Essex County got a second dose of good economic news Friday.
Shortly after Statistics Canada reported that Windsor's unemployment rate dropped to 7 per cent, the housing industry reported continued growth in new home construction for the region.
Work began on 57 new homes last month in the Windsor census area, according to data released from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
That's about four times as many homes that were built in March 2015, the corporation reports.
According to the CMHC, the construction of semi-detached and single-family homes are driving this increase.
Growth was especially strong within the city and in Lakeshore and Tecumseh.
The Windsor CMA includes Windsor, Lakeshore, LaSalle, Tecumseh and Amherstburg.
