City officials in Windsor are now planning a second Open Streets event, one day after the first was deemed a success.

Windsor's first Open Streets happened Sunday and is being hailed as a success by organizers and citizens.

Eight kilometres of streets were blocked to vehicles for four hours. The streets were taken over by thousands of cyclists and pedestrians.

Michael Cooke, the city official who was the lead organizer for Windsor's first Open Streets event, said it was "outstanding."

Cooke said he could not believe the amount of energy there was along Wyandotte Street E. and University Avenue W.

Windsor Morning host Tony Doucette walked as much of the event as he could Sunday and took these photos.

CBC Windsor partner Eric Bonicci of Eyes on Windsor snapped these shots in the Walkerville and Riverside neighbourhoods.
