Windsor police charge arson suspect in Walkerville-area fires
32-year-old man faces multiple charges
Windsor police say they've nabbed an arson suspect in a recent pair of fires at a home in the Walkerville-area.
The Windsor Police Service on Wednesday said a 32-year-old man is facing multiple charges in connection with two fires earlier this month at the home Pierre Avenue near Richmond Street.
Officers and firefighters responded to the first fire at around 1 a.m. on June 12, police said in the statement.
"Windsor Fire and Rescue Services brought the blaze under control," police said. "Investigators later determined the fire had been deliberately ignited in a second-floor sunroom."
Then, four days later, police and fire crews responded to another call at the same residence. "This time, the blaze originated beneath a staircase and spread to the garage," police said. "Investigators once again concluded the fire had been intentionally set."
At the time, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services said the blaze had caused $100,00 in damage.
"No physical injuries were reported in either incident, though the property sustained significant damage," police said Wednesday.
The suspect turned himself in on June 25, police said. He faces breaking and entering and arson charges, as well as failure to comply with a probation order, among other charges.
Police are asking anyone with information to call their arson unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4330 or Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
