Ontario's police watchdog is investigating an arrest made by Windsor Police last week after a man was sent to hospital with a serious injury.

Officers arrested the 22-year-old who was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants on Thursday, September 28 at 9:45 p.m, stated the Special Investigations Unit in a media release.

The police were not in uniform at the time of the arrest, according to the SIU.

The man was taken into custody after "an interaction" in the parking lot of an apartment building at 333 Glengarry Avenue and was later taken to hospital and diagnosed with a serious injury, according to the media release.

The SIU said two investigators have been assigned to the investigation.

This is at least the third investigation involving Windsor Police the SIU has launched in September.

The unit is called in to investigate any reports involving police "where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault."

A spokesperson with Windsor police said the force is not able to comment on the investigation.
