The Chatham-Kent Police Service said it has arrested a Chatham man in connection with an incident of vandalism targeting a Tesla vehicle.

It happened on Tuesday at around 4 p.m., police said in a news release issued Wednesday.

Officers responded to a report of property damage in the parking lot of a retail store on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

The complainant reported that an unknown man was damaging his Telsa truck.

The accused left before police arrived, but officers located him at the intersection of St. Clair Street and McNaughton Avenue.

Police say the 27-year-old had keyed the vehicle and was also striking it while shouting racial slurs at the vehicle's owner. During his arrest, the man spat at one of the attending officers.

The accused was charged with mischief over $5,000 and assaulting a peace officer.

He was released with conditions with a scheduled future court date of April 28.
