Windsor library promotes drunken spelling bee

The idea came from Leisa Pieczonka, the team leader of community libraries for the Windsor Public Library, who learned about other libraries holding similar events as a way to market new audiences.

There's already plenty of buzz about an adult spelling bee scheduled at Phog Lounge next week.

Owner Tom Lucier partnered with the Windsor Public Library to host the event that gives adults an opportunity to relive their glory days, only this time with a few drinks from the bar.

And there's plenty of smack talk about the Buzzed Bee, according to Lucier.

"There's already a whack of people talking trash about how they're going to win this thing," he wrote on his Facebook page.

The idea came from Leisa Pieczonka, the team leader of community libraries for the Windsor Public Library. She learned about other libraries holding similar events as a way to market new audiences.

"There's going to be drinking involved, so that can lead to all sorts of fun," she said. "It may make people better spellers, it may make people poorer spellers."
