Windsor woman awarded for contributions to South Asian society through dance

Vabna Talukdar loves to help others while celebrating her culture. So far annual song and dance shows she puts on with a partner have raised about $11,000 for the Hindu Mandir Temple in Windsor.

Ever since she was a child, Vabna Talukdar has loved to dance.

"It's always been one of my passions," she said. "I would dance and not stop."

Talukdar's moves have carried her far. She currently runs a dance school and has competed in dozens of dance competitions and even finished second in a Canada-wide version of Boogie Woogie, a popular contest in India.

Recently, the contributions she's made to South Asian society were recognized with the Youth Achievement Award of 2017.

Talukdar said she loves to help others while celebrating her culture. So far, she's helped raise about $11,000 for the Hindu Mandir Temple in Windsor by putting on a song and dance show with a partner.
