Donald Trump on Muslims and other hair-raising quotes
'I will say what I want to say,' presumptive Republican presidential nominee has said
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump took to Twitter to name Indiana Gov. Mike Pence his running mate on Friday.
The announcement, and the manner in which he delivered it, was not a surprise for a man who frequently uses the social platform to address the public directly.
It was also on Twitter that the brash billionaire recently fired back at U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who called him "a faker" in interviews.
Justice Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court has embarrassed all by making very dumb political statements about me. Her mind is shot - resign!
—@realDonaldTrump
Ginsburg apologized on Thursday morning. The public tête-à-tête is just the latest to have produced hair-raising quotes. The following are some of the others.
'He killed terrorists. He did that so good.'
Last week at a rally in Raleigh, N.C., Trump praised former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's tough stance on terrorism saying the world would be "100 per cent better" if dictators like Hussein and Libya's Moammar Gadhafi were still in power.
On Muslims coming to the U.S.
At a rally in December 2015 in Mount Pleasant, S.C., Trump defended his plan for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims" by comparing it with former president Franklin Roosevelt's decision to inter Japanese Americans during the Second World War.
In support of a Muslim database.
"I would certainly implement that. Absolutely," Trump told an NBC News reporter between campaign events in November 2015 while in Newton, Iowa.
Trump: "Would certainly implement" Muslim databases. And "you tell me" diff from Jews/Germa: https://t.co/2FM6wReY6e pic.twitter.com/l3UgsMvjlE

He has put Syrian refugees 'on notice.'
Trump has also made it clear he would send the Syrian refugees already accepted into the U.S. back to Syria. He made the comment at an event in Keene, N.H., in September.
"I'm putting the people on notice that are coming here from Syria as part of this mass migration, that if I win, if I win, they're going back."
He misread the mood in Scotland.
A day after the Brexit result, Trump arrived in Scotland to promote one of his golf courses but missed the mark with this tweet. Scotland voted to remain in the European Union but apparently nobody told Trump.
Just arrived in Scotland. Place is going wild over the vote. They took their country back, just like we will take America back. No games!

He weighed in on the Miami nightclub attack.
After 49 people at a gay Miami nightclub were gunned down early on June 12 by a shooter who had reportedly claimed allegiance to ISIS, Trump took the opportunity to remind everyone he was right about terrorism.
Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism, I don't want congrats, I want toughness & vigilance. We must be smart!

He has a penchant for nicknames.
Trump has often referred to Hillary Clinton's likely vice-presidential pick as "Goofy Elizabeth Warren." He has repeatedly called the Massachusetts senator "Pocahontas" over a comment Warren made that she was told she had 1/32 Cherokee ancestry.
Pocahontas is at it again! Goofy Elizabeth Warren, one of the least productive U.S. Senators, has a nasty mouth. Hope she is V.P. choice.

He feuded with Megyn Kelly.
The Fox News host got into a nasty "feud" with Trump after she brought up his use of terms like "fat pig" to describe women (including actress and former talk show host Rosie O'Donnell) in a debate last August.
He went on the offensive on Twitter.
Wow, @megynkelly really bombed tonight. People are going wild on twitter! Funny to watch.
—@realDonaldTrump
The two supposedly buried the hatchet in a much-hyped followup interview, but Kelly's line of questioning was widely panned for being too soft.
#MegynKellyPresents Two former enemies turned best friends with the same haircut. pic.twitter.com/yuYtNSiFzt

War heroes are 'people who weren't captured.'
During a conservative forum in Iowa last July, Trump dismissed Senator John McCain's reputation as a war hero because he was captured in Vietnam. "I like people who weren't captured, OK?"
The war of words started after the Arizona senator said Trump riled up the Republican Party's "crazies" with remarks about Mexican immigrants.
The thousands of people that showed up for me in Phoenix were amazing Americans. @SenJohnMcCain called them "crazies"--must apologize!
—@realDonaldTrump
Trump avoided serving in the Vietnam War using four student deferments.
.@SenJohnMcCain should be defeated in the primaries. Graduated last in his class at Annapolis--dummy!
—@realDonaldTrump
He called Mexican immigrants 'rapists.'
During his presidential campaign kickoff speech, Trump said Mexican immigrants are "bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists and some — I assume — are good people."
He wants to build a wall at Mexican border.
Trump has also proposed building a massive, impenetrable wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to keep out illegal migrants.
"It's not even a difficult project if you know what you're doing."
He says he'd 'get along very, very well' with Putin.
When it comes to global affairs, Donald Trump has accused U.S. President Barack Obama of incompetence in dealing with President Vladimir Putin. When asked about Russian relations, Trump said the problem is that Putin doesn't respect Obama. If Trump were president, he said, "I think we would get along very, very well."
He waded in to vaccine controversy.
Ignoring the scientific consensus, Trump waded into the vaccination controversy in 2014, tweeting:
Healthy young child goes to doctor, gets pumped with massive shot of many vaccines, doesn't feel good and changes - AUTISM. Many such cases!

He's slept with 'top women in the world.'
In his book Think Big: Make It Happen in Business and Life, Trump reminisced about former romantic partners.
"Oftentimes when I was sleeping with one of the top women in the world, I would say to myself, thinking about me as a boy from Queens, 'Can you believe what I am getting?"'
