The country-wide trend to vote early continued on P.E.I. in the days before Monday's 65th general election.

Statistics released Sunday by Elections PEI showed 28,895 Islanders took advantage of three days of advance polling.

That compares to 21,017 total advance in the lead up to the 2011 provincial election.

As of Monday morning there were 95,433 registered voters, a number that could change by the end of the day as some qualified voters can register at their polling station if they do not appear on the registered voters list.

Voter turnout will be a number to watch once the polls close on Monday. In 2011, a total of 76.4% of eligible voters cast a ballot. It was a 45-year low in a province that regularly tops voter turnout numbers in both federal and provincial elections.
