Canadian country star Shania Twain to 'go out with a bang' on farewell tour
48-city 'Rock This Country Tour' comes to Canada in June with dates from Vancouver to Montreal
Shania Twain will get back in the saddle this summer with her first major North American tour in a decade — an all new show that the Canadian country superstar says will be her last.
The Timmins, Ont.-born international star made the announcement on ABC's Good Morning America on Wednesday.
"This is a very, very important time in my life," the 49-year-old singer told ABC. "I just feel like I'm ready to hang my hat up in that regard. I just really want to go out with a bang."
The road show comes on the heels of "Shania: Still The One," her wildly successful two-year residency at Caesars Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas. That 100-minute live show, which wrapped up in December, featured trained horses, a live 13-piece band and a flying motorcycle.
"[The production] was a huge mountain to climb, for me," she admitted . "I enjoyed it, it was a huge reward, and I see the upcoming tour as a celebration of that."
Twain says her 48-city "Rock This Country Tour" will be totally different from her Vegas show. Tickets go on sale on March 13, with the tour kicking off in Seattle in June.
Canadian dates are:
- Vancouver, Rogers Arena — June 7 and 9.
- Edmonton, Rexall Place — June 11 and 12.
- Saskatoon, SaskTel Centre — June 14.
- Winnipeg, MTS Centre — June 15.
- Hamilton, FirstOntario Centre — June 22.
- Toronto, Air Canada Centre — June 24 and 25.
- Ottawa, Wesley Clover Field — June 27.
- Montreal, Bell Centre — June 28.
Calgary singer Wes Mack will open for Twain at the Canadian gigs.
Hints at new album
The five-time Grammy winner hasn't released an album since 2002's Up!, but the singer says she's working on a new record to be released some time after the tour.
"I want it to come out when I'm 50, so it will happen," said Twain, whose birthday is in August. "I'm on the microphone every day recording stuff."
Her 1997 record Come On Over is still the best-selling studio album by a female act and best-selling country album of all time. And she's sold more than 75 million albums worldwide.
To be sure, Twain's successes have not been without stress.
In 2011, Twain revealed on her OWN reality show Why Not? With Shania Twain that she had lost the use of her voice because of the stress of her breakup with music producer husband Robert (Mutt) Lange.
The couple divorced in 2010 amid allegations Lange had an affair with Twain's best friend.
Six months later, Twain announced her marriage to Swiss business executive Frédéric Thiébaud.
