Award-winning actor to receive honour in January
Denzel Washington will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at next year's Golden Globes for his considerable impact on
the world of entertainment.
Lorenzo Soria, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, announced the news on Monday.
The achievement award is handed out each year to a well-known individual in the industry who has made significant contributions to show business.
George Clooney received the award for 2015. A year earlier, it went to director Woody Allen.
Washington will also join the ranks of previous Cecil B. DeMille Award recipients such as Harrison Ford, Warren Beatty, Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, and Barbara Streisand, among others.
Washington is a two-time Golden Globe-winner: best actor for The Hurricane in 1999 and best supporting actor for Glory in 1989.
He has also won two Academy Awards: best actor for Training Day in 2001 and best supporting actor for Glory in 1989.
The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on Jan. 10. Ricky Gervais is hosting.
