Oprah Winfrey has regained the top spot on Forbes' annual list of the most powerful celebrities.

The talk show diva-turned-TV network mogul reigns atop the 2013 tally, marking her fifth time in the number one slot and coming after two years of runner-up status.

Forbes revealed its latest ranking on Wednesday, with Lady Gaga, Steven Spielberg, Beyoncé Knowles and Madonna rounding out the top five.

"There is nobody else with that kind of consistency and power [as Winfrey]," Forbes staffer Dorothy Pomerantz wrote on the outlet's website.

"There are only three people who have been on every single one of our lists since 1999. It is Oprah, Howard Stern and Steven Spielberg."

In the past year, Winfrey had earnings of $77 million US. Incidentally, she didn't take home the heftiest paycheque: that title went to Madonna, who made $125 million US.

However, the former daytime talk queen's ubiquitous presence in the press, on social media and across her multimedia empire (which includes her cable network OWN, her publication O, The Oprah Magazine and her satellite station Oprah Radio) vaulted her to the top spot.

"She still wields an enormous amount of power, which is really what we look for in our fame matrix."

To compile the list, Forbes staffers look at a celebrity's earnings over the past year and factor in a marketability score (as developed by market research firm E-Poll). Also considered are the celebrity's fame and influence as gauged by appearances in traditional media and across social media platforms.

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber also made the 2013 cut: he is the youngest person on this year's list, placed ninth overall and was deemed to have the most influence across social networks out of all 100 celebrities noted.

Newcomers on the 2013 list include actors Hugh Jackman (11), Channing Tatum (23), Jennifer Lawrence (49) and Mila Kunis (89). The full list is available on Forbes.com.
