Grammy crasher spends night in jail after rushing stage
Greeted Adele, booted offstage by Jennifer Lopez in seconds-long incident
A controversial celebrity prankster and Ukrainian TV presenter known for crashing red carpets and catching famous folks off-guard met his match in Jennifer Lopez at Sunday's Grammys in Los Angeles.
Vitalii Sediuk, 24, was charged with trespassing and spent Sunday night in jail after sneaking into the annual music awards and rushing the stage when British singer Adele rose to accept an award.
Sediuk is the notorious interviewer who earned a slap from Will Smith on the red carpet in 2012 when he kissed the Men in Black 3 star while greeting him on the red carpet.
Though he had no tickets nor media accreditation, Sediuk managed to enter the Grammy Awards on Sunday, at one point interviewing some celebrities, striding the red carpet behind pop star Katy Perry and eventually sitting in a prime seat earmarked for Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine.
When performer Jennifer Lopez announced Adele as winner of the best pop solo performance honour for Set Fire to the Rain, Sediuk rushed onstage first in a mock acceptance. He blurted out: "I love you, Adele" before the composed Lopez deftly and casually booted him offstage, where he was met by startled and angry security guards. Part of the Grammys broadcast, the entire incident lasted just seconds.
"My purpose is to entertain and to show a different emotion of celebrities," Sediuk told The Hollywood Reporter. "I’m not a crazy guy. I just think differently."
Sediuk is scheduled to appear in court in March.
